Photo Trivia (or) Help Elissa Integrate Culturally
As previously mentioned, our recent trip to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, opened up this whole new world of "The Midwest" to me. But now, now I have questions. Consider...
So, is there a method to the distribution of hay bales across fields? Did someone make them from that field's grass and them just leave them there? Or are they transported there and scattered haphazardly for later use? Why are they not in neat grids like other nice midwestern things?
And what is this strange tank-like military vehicle that we saw at a gas station? What does it do? Why does its nose vaguely resemble a plane's tail?
And, finally, funny town name aside, what's up with lone letters in white boxes on Missouri road signs? Is there a road named "F"? Is there a logic behind which letter or letter combination is bestowed?
As we continue to follow my progress in integrating into mainland life, look forward to the next installment: "How Elissa Singlehandedly Managed to Insult Every Car on the Road for Three Miles Simply Because She Was Not Raised in the South."

I'll take an uneducated guess at the first one...the bales were dumped off a truck in that field for later consumption of whatever animals will live there.

Hey Elissa! Congratulations to you and Noel -- I just recently found out you were enjoying wedded bliss. Anyway, I'm not from the midwest, but I AM from the west, and have spent many a day hauling hay back from the farm to our barn. The rolls of hay are made by a special tractor. When they're rolled to the right size, the tractor leaves them and begins another roll. So, they're not always equally or exactly spaced. I do hope that will help you to sleep at night.... :-)

Hey, Harmony, thanks for the well wishes :) Thanks even more for the first-hand hay baling information! That puts my soul at peace and I will no longer begrudge their scattered arrangement.
Bob, I'm willing to believe your guess is true in some cases as well ;)
Now, will someone please address the Missouri road sign?

Yes there are indeed roads in missouri named after the letters of the alphabet. Its kinda weird.
